Massacres Galore, But Who’s Watching? And Does Anyone Give a Damn?

As the world watches, calculates, weighs options, ponders and pontificates, the
Assads tend ever so caringly their growing killing fields.

6 civilians reported dead in Arihaa in northwestern Syria, as government death
squads continue their crackdown against unarmed civilians protesting Assad
authoritarian rule. Military operations continue in Jisr Ashoughour as more
protesters say that the mass graves uncovered by Syrian TV actually host bodies
of protesters not security officers. Defecting Colonel Hussein Harmoush says he
saw with his own eyes Iranian and Hezbollah snipers targeting protesters.
Military operations continue in the city of Alboukamal on the borders with Iraq
amidst a news blackout. Number of Syrian refugees in Turkey said to have
reached 9,000. Army tanks and troops move towards the city of Mouarrat
Al-Nouman. Syrian Revolution Facebook Page names the coming Friday after Saleh
Al-Ali, an Alawite leader of the Syrian revolution against French occupation in
the hope of appealing to the Alawite community to join the protest movement.

Take the official death toll figures of 1,500-2,000 offered by human rights
groups and quadruple it: now you have an idea what’s really happening in Syria.
According to eyewitnesses more than 1,000 were killed in Rastan only in Week
11, Deraa City alone, not to mention other Horan communities, may have suffered
as much as 2,000 fatalities. And heaven only knows what is happening now in
Jisr Ashoughour.

We try hard to get the truth out but to no avail. Everything we say pales in
comparison to what is actually taking place, and so many in the international
community keep falling victim’s to Assad propaganda, as they speak of clashes,
mutinies and armed resistance, making a mockery out of the bravery of the
thousands upon thousands of unarmed protesters who face tanks every day with
bear chests and cry “peaceful, peaceful,” refusing to take up arms.

People continue to speak about the growing potential for civil strife and
sectarian warfare, and the concerns of minority communities in Syria,
especially the Alawites. But in reality only Assad loyalists have access to
sophisticated weaponry. In fact, even army defectors couldn’t get access to
anything heavier than automatic assault rifles, and an armored car or two.
Meanwhile, and for all talk about Alawite fears and concerns, the majority of
the killers, so far, have been Alawites, and the majority of the killed –
Sunnis. Yes, there is growing anger, and sectarian discourse can be heard in
all quarters, but the balance of power and actual terror still favors the
Assads. Still, so many speak of the situation as though it were a battle
between equal sides.

For all our efforts and all the bravery of the on-the ground activists, we are
obviously losing the media war, and a regime that refers to its people as
infiltrators and to refugees as tourists is actually winning. But that’s to be
expected really, after all, we are not fighting against the Assads alone, we’re
fighting against their main backers as well: no, not Iran, Hezbollah, Russia or
China, but the gods of indifference, cynicism and senility. Heaven help us.​

مشروع قرار فرنسي

قال وزير الخارجية الفرنسي الان جوبيه أن قرارا يدين سورية سيعرض في مجلس الأمن،
لكن جوبيه قال أن الدول التي ستطرح قرار المشروع لن تجازف بتقديمه لمجلس الأمن
حتى تضمن توافر غالبية كافية لمصلحته. وأضاف الوزير الفرنسي "إذا تحركت الأمور من
هذا الجانب، وإذا تمكنا من تأمين أحد عشر صوتاً فعلى كل طرف أن يتحمل مسؤوليته.
سنطرح مشروع القرار هذا للتصويت وسنرى ما إذا كانت روسيا والصين ستستمران في
(موقفهما لجهة استخدام) الفيتو". وكرر أنه بالنسبة إلى فرنسا فإن القمع في سورية
"يثير الاستياء ويستدعي الإدانة"، مضيفاً أن الأمور تتدهور من يوم إلى آخر

أزمة مع الجامعة العربية

ردت دمشق بعنف على تصريحات أمين عام الجامعة العربية المنتهية ولايته عمرو موسى
بخصوص الوضع في سورية
وقال يوسف أحمد سفير سورية لدى مصر ومندوبها الدائم لدى الجامعة العربية، إن
تصريحات موسى بخصوص الوضع فى سوريا غير متوازنة ولا تعدو كونها تجاهلا فاضحا
لحقيقة ما تتعرض له سورية من استهداف خارجي يستخدم أجندة وأذرعا داخلية سعت وتسعى
إلى ضرب الأمن والاستقرار في البلاد والنيل من مواقف سورية واستقلالها وقرارها
الوطني
وأضاف السفير أن سورية ماضية في طريق الإصلاح وفي تلبية المطالب المشروعة
لمواطنيها وفي أداء واجبها الوطني لحماية أرواحهم وممتلكاتهم وفي التصدي للإرهاب
والتطرف الذي يستهدف أمنها واستقرارها

اختفاء معارض سوري

لا يزال الغموض يكتنف قضية اختفاء المعارض السوري السابق شبلي العيسمي، الذي شغل
منصب نائب أمين عام حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي، خلال الفترة من 1964 الى 1992
حين انتقل من سورية إلى العراق، قبل أن يغادرها عام 2003، ويستقر في الولايات
المتحدة الامريكية حيث يعيش ولداه. العيسمي (86 عاما) الذي اختفى في لبنان، منذ
الرابع والعشرين من أيار/مايو الماضي، قرب منزل ابنته في بلدة عالية الجبلية، كان
من مؤسسي حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي، إلا أنه ابتعد عن ممارسة أي نشاط سياسي،
منذ عام 1992 بعد أن تخلى عن منصبه في حزب البعث في العراق، الذي شغله طوال 26
عاما. اختفاء العيسمي في لبنان، دفع بأهالي منطقة عاليه، وأقاربه إلى التحرك
باتجاه القيادات السياسية، حيث جرى اتصال بالنائب وليد جنبلاط وقيادات سياسية
عليا على رأسهم رئيس الجمهورية ميشال سليمان طالبوا فيها بالتحرك السريع للكشف عن
مصيره، كما نظمت في الوقت عينه لقاءات شعبية ومسيرات سلمية تعبيرا عن رفضهم
لعملية اختفائه في ظروف غامضة، وطالب البيان الصادر عن أسرته الأجهزة الامنية
بالكشف عن مصيره والافراج عنه فورا

عمليات النزوح مستمرة

تصاعدت عمليات النزوح من سورية إلى تركيا في الساعات الأخيرة الماضية ليصل العدد
إلى نحو 8 آلاف شخص فروا من الاضطرابات التي تشهدها بلادهم، وكشفت إدارة الكوارث
والأزمات التابعة لرئاسة الوزراء التركية اليوم عن أن عدد السوريين الذين لجأوا
الى تركيا بلغ 8538 شخصا مع وصول قرابة 2000 لاجئ جديد إلى محافظة (هطاي) جنوب
تركيا قرب الحدود مع سورية. وتكفلت جمعية الهلال الأحمر التركية بهؤلاء اللاجئين
في أقليم (هاتاي) حيث أقامت قرية من الخيام تتسع لعشرات الآلاف من الأشخاص. من
جهتها أرسلت مصلحة إدارة الطوارئ التركية مبلغ 475 ألف دولار إلى مكتب حاكم (هطاي)
لكي تتمكن السلطات المحلية من تأمين احتياجات اللاجئين السوريين. كما أكدت
السلطات التركية أن "حدودها ستظل مفتوحة" مع خشيتها من تدفق كبير للاجئين بعد أن
تكثف وصول السوريين بسبب الأحداث القائمة في بلادهم منذ 15 مارس/آذار الماضي. وفي
سياق متصل، أفاد المقدم السوري المنشق حسين هرموش الذي لجأ الى الحدود التركية
أفاد بوقوع خلافات في صفوف الجيش، وأضاف هرموش أنه قام ومجموعة من الجنود بحماية
سكان مدينة جسر الشغور

الجيش في معرة النعمان
تتجه قوة من الجيش السوري إلى بلدة معرة النعمان شمال غرب البلاد للسيطرة عليها،
في وقت اتهمت فيه دمشق الجماعات المسلحة بترويع الأهالي في البلدة. وتزامن ذلك
مع استمرار اعتقال الناشطين بقرى جسر الشغور في إطار قمع الاحتجاجات المناهضة
للنظام. ونقلت وكالة رويترز عن شهود عيان قولهم إن قوات سورية من الأمن والجيش
تتجه نحو بلدة معرة النعمان التابعة لمحافظة إدلب، بعد أن واصلت تنفيذ عمليات في
قرى محيط مدينة جسر الشغور اعتقلت خلالها مئات من الأشخاص. من جانبها نقلت وكالة
الصحافة الفرنسية عن ناشطين حقوقيين أن الجيش السوري وقوى الأمن تقوم بعملية
واسعة النطاق لقمع الاحتجاجات في معرة النعمان
